cowboy quilt

I did finish this.  Last weekend, I swear, before I started the etsy madness.  One quilt down, one to go.  I will probably have to go into Reno to find the chunky muslin for the reverse, or just use the buttery soft Kona muslin I was saving for my quilt (and save myself the money from browsing my favorite store).


The large orange dots are from Denyse Schmidt, I also have the yellow dot colorway and I think I will use that for Hunter's quilt.  It won't change the overall look, but will tie in the yellow quilt binding he picked out.  My littlest mini man chose his favorite color, and it is yellow. The big guy's fave has been blue since I don't know when, and I have been hinting for Hunter's to be red or lately I just get two blues to save an arguement.  So yellow...how perfectly fabulous and fitting to his personality.

Weekend warrior that I am, I will finish this quilt. Ok, I just started, and well, I just really want to get the top done on one. I am redecorating/first decorating the boys' room. They have adorable matching beds and I want their quilts to match. I found this vintage sheet on eBay and loved it.

Then, I dug around my wall-o-fabric and pulled out these guys. The goal was to not buy anything, to use what I already had. So far so good.

I wanted something simple and all boy. Something kind of modern and not so kitchy. I also knew I am lazy and wanted something easy peasy. While watching Dear Genevieve on HGTV (how I actually caught a show that wasn't House Hunters I will never know- what has happened to you darling HGTV???) she was doing a playroom redo. The mom was a graphic designer and the dad was a science teacher and Gen decided to do chopped up stripes resembling a gene test. My brain switched on and I came up with broken stripes on my quilt design.

This seems super easy, but it will be my first attempt on my own design/pattern. We shall see. Oh, and btw, only third quilt ever.
hee hee hee, took the funky photos with Hipstamatic with my iPhone. Lovin' it. (INSERT HUGE SMILE HERE) Woo hoo! Gives the post a new feel. I don't think I have ever LOVED an electronic device.  I think its mainly because its so much faster than the D-word.  And I just found this app that will let me post with pics to blogger.  Might just be the best $2 I have ever spent.  Better watch out D-word...

Cowboys and Elephants - sheet set

I really want both boys to have "matching"  sheet sets.  I think its the fun part of having them both in the same room. In my search for cute and affordable options for the boys room, I found this set on Target.com.   Its from Dwell Studio, and is super cute and colorful, a balanced modern twist on traditional. It screams western fun without all the kitchy stuff, right? It might still be out of my price range for toddler sets. Cute nonetheless.

Cowboys and parties

So last week, we had everyone over for Henry's 4th birthday. Here are some of the pics from it. Decorating took much longer than I originally thought. But overall it turned out pretty cute. I had a ton of help with the printables from ChatchkeDesigns.

I found Sarah' shop while browsing ideas on etsy. Her invites and party package were incredibly cute! AND incredibly reasonably priced!

Just too cute. I put them on rootbeer bottles.

I made cowboy cookies from some Williams Sonoma ice cream sandwich cutters.

Add lots and lots of jute rope (tons in one of those rolls), roll some of them up like lassos. Clip everywhere with clothes pins.

Add rusty metal picture frames ($2 each on clearance at Craft Market in Carson City), and other cowboy items we have lying around. My boys are "everyday" cowboys and man are they cute!

Cowboys & Elephants

This is the theme I picked for the boys. So far I have gathered random things but have found the perfect bedding. These mini wool blankets from Pendelton (pendelton-usa.com) are so perfect.

I am loving the stripe the best, its simpler and if ever they don't like cowboys (not likely) or just want a plainer room, it will still work.

I found a pattern in Amy Butler's Stitches for Little Ones for crib sheets (great for toddler beds) and want to get this fabric for the boys. Blue for Henry, of course, and red for Hunter. So cute, so vintage, and it would be handmade and extra special!
